Absolute shock in the room as DC is passed over as a host megacity. A World Cup without matches in the public capital seems unbelievable, but then we are.pic.twitter.com/rvvwy3ByJM

So the biggest stunner DC/ Baltimore is shut out from World Cup 2026. Stunned. Event not coming to capital of crucial host country.

Where would the matches have been held?
D.C. and Baltimore, located roughly an hour’s drive down from one another, decided to combine their flings due to limited colosseums of sufficient quality in the region.

Games would have been held at NFL venue M&T Bank Stadium in Baltimore, as the other options that met capacity criteria were supposed not in good enough condition.
Still, FIFA President Gianni Infantino assured people in the area that fests would still come to the nation’s capital in 2026.

“ The selection came right down to last night, this morning, ” FIFA superintendent Victor Montagliani said.
